God Knows the Backstory

A split portrait showing the same woman in two different life stages—one young and casual, the other older and dressed formally—symbolizing the hidden story and seasons God sees beyond outward appearance

You’re not just seen. You’re known.

We live in a world that moves fast and judges quick.
People make assumptions.
They see your highlight reel or your worst moment and decide they know the whole story.

But they don’t.

There’s more going on than what people see.
There’s the part no one knows about.
The reason you react the way you do.
The battles you’ve fought.
The things you’ve overcome.
The pain you carry quietly.
The growth that’s still in progress.

That’s the backstory.

And while others may only see the surface, God sees all of it.

God saw David when no one else did.

This verse comes from the moment Samuel was sent to anoint a new king for Israel. Everyone expected it to be the strongest, tallest, most impressive son.

But God chose David.
The one no one even invited in from the field.
The shepherd. The overlooked one.

Why? Because God wasn’t looking for perfect.
He was looking for real.

You don’t have to explain your whole story to be understood by God.

He already knows.
And He still chooses you.

He sees:

  • The parts you’ve hidden

  • The parts you’re working on

  • The parts you’re not proud of

  • The parts you haven’t figured out yet

And still, He says you’re not disqualified. You’re not forgotten. You’re not overlooked.

You are known.
And you are loved.

A Prayer for Today

Lord, thank You for seeing past what others see.
Thank You for understanding the story behind my story.
Help me stop trying to prove something to everyone else and just rest in what You already know.
You see my heart.
You know where I’ve been.
And You still choose to use me.
Amen.
