Morning Whispers of His Presence

A quiet, tree-lined driveway in the early morning with soft green leaves and gentle light filtering through, capturing a peaceful moment of stillness before the day begins

There’s a certain kind of morning I love. Not the crisp cold of winter or the muggy dawn of deep summer. I mean those days that begin just a little cool. When the air wakes you gently. When everything feels calm and full of promise.

Some mornings, often on days just like this, I walk the drive and pause before climbing into the car. I don’t want to get my shoes wet, so I stick to the pavement. It’s not a long walk, but it doesn’t need to be. There’s something holy about even a few quiet steps when your heart is tuned to listen.

This morning I stood there for a moment, letting the cool air settle around me. The birds had begun their song. The breeze whispered through the trees. Then Rachel came out the door, ready for her own day. She paused, smiled, and asked, “What are you doing?”
I simply replied, “Taking it in.”

And I was. Taking in the stillness, the hush of early light, the small chorus of creation doing what it always does. Taking in the presence of God who, I believe, still meets us in the quiet.

“And they heard the sound of the Lord God walking in the garden in the cool of the day…”
Genesis 3:8 NKJV

That verse has always struck me. God walked with Adam and Eve in the cool of the day. Not in the heat of noon. Not during the loudest part of life. But in the stillness. He hasn’t changed. He still walks with us when we slow down enough to notice.

Sometimes we’re waiting for thunder from heaven. But often God speaks in the hush. In the soft rustling of leaves. In the bird's morning hymn. In the breath of cool air before the sun climbs too high.

That’s what I was doing. Taking it in. Receiving the morning not just as a moment of beauty, but as a quiet invitation to walk with God before the day truly begins.

A Prayer for Today:
Lord, thank You for the quiet moments You give us. Thank You for walking with us in the cool of the day. Help me not to miss You by rushing into what comes next. Teach me to pause, to listen, and to take in Your nearness. In Jesus’ name, amen
